Tyler Fork Cascades, Wisconsin

Directly above the very beautiful Brownstone Falls is a set of cascades, Tyler Fork Cascades, that are also very beautiful. Tyler Fork Cascades are found in Copper Falls State Park, and are probably the easiest off the waterfalls to miss, simply because there not as large. There is actually a better viewpoint for the cascades than there is for Copper Falls, though, which I think is rather intriguing.

The cascades should be visited while you’re doing the circle loop that passes by Copper Falls, Brownstone Falls, and these cascades. The hike is rather simple and extremely enjoyable.

Directions:

  1. From WI-13 heading north, go to Mellen.
  2. Turn onto WI-169. Go about 1.8 miles north.
  3. Turn left to the entrance to the state park. If you do not have an annual Wisconsin State Parks tag, pay the fee.
  4. Keep heading down the road to the parking area. There will be a little park and a food pavilion.
  5. Start your hike by crossing the bridge across the Bad River. You will come to Copper Falls first, and then Brownstone Falls will be the next on the trail. You can continue on the 1.5 mile round-trip trail to see Tylers Fork Cascades.

Copper Falls, Wisconsin

I guess you could say Copper Falls is main attraction in Copper Falls State Park. To start off, it is a beautiful water, and very complex too. The picture here doesn’t do Copper Falls justice, as there are drops and plunges that can be seen at one lookout but not the other.

Copper Falls is disappointing in some ways, too. Because the gorge is rather steep and deeper than expected, the Wisconsin parks has only lookouts to the falls. These lookouts are far above the falls, and so visitors don’t get very close to these falls, taking away some of the fun. Brownstone Falls also ends up having the luck of being the falls in the park with a better view. No matter what, you’ll still get to see three pretty good waterfalls/ cascades in the park.

Brownstone Falls, Wisconsin

Brownstone Falls is one of the significant waterfalls you can view on the Doughboy Trail in Copper Falls State Park in Wisconsin. This is probably my favorite of the waterfalls and cascades that are in the park.

Brownstone Falls is pretty easy to access. The trail is level and easy to traverse. The only negative about the trail is how close you can get to the waterfalls. The gorge the falls are found in is surprisingly steep, so it is understandable that you cannot get extremely close to the falls. The only way to view the falls fully is from above. Brownstone Falls has the best view, though it still leads to a deceiving view, as the falls are higher than they appear.
