Wyandot Falls, Pennsylvania

I have to admit that when I tried to remember where I had visited Wyandot Falls, I couldn’t really remember. There are many waterfalls in Ricketts Glen that I clearly remember, but I guess Wyandot Falls isn’t one of them. I don’t even remember the name.

That’s not to say that it isn’t a pretty waterfall, it just might not be the most memorable of the waterfalls in the park. There are others that are smaller that are more memorable for one reason or another. There are also much bigger waterfalls in the park, such as Ganoga Falls. Still, Wyandot Falls is unavoidable, and that is a good thing in my book.

Directions:

  1. From your starting point, get to the area around Red Rock, PA.
  2. Turn onto PA-487, heading north. Go to the entrance to Ricketts Glen and turn right into the entrance.
  3. Follow the signs to the Falls Trail. You can access the Falls Trail using the Lake Rose parking area or Beach Lot #2 parking area, though you’ll be starting on different creeks. Start your hike on the loop by connecting into the Falls Trail.

Murray Reynolds Falls, Pennsylvania

Murray Reynolds Falls in May 2009

When I saw Murray Reynolds Falls in the picture just now, my first thought was that Murray Reynolds Falls is one of the more distinct waterfalls in Ricketts Glen State Park. Many of the waterfalls in the park have a very cascade-like feel to them, whereas this waterfall seems to have a sharper drop to it. That’s not to say that many of the other waterfalls don’t have larger single drops, but they don’t always stand out very well, at least not compared to waterfalls elsewhere.

  1. From your starting point, get to the area around Red Rock, PA.
  2. Turn onto PA-487, heading north. Go to the entrance to Ricketts Glen and turn right into the entrance.

Huron Falls, Pennsylvania

Huron Falls is another beautiful waterfall in Ricketts Glen State Park. With over 20 different waterfalls in the park, it’s not surprising. I have to admit that they all start to blend together, though, which also isn’t surprising, since you could think of this group of falls as one super-large, continuous waterfall (or two waterfalls). When visiting Huron Falls, look for the cool tree right in the middle of the falls. It’s easy to miss those little things!

Directions:

  1. From your starting point, get to the area around Red Rock, PA.
  2. Turn onto PA-487, heading north. Go to the entrance to Ricketts Glen and turn right into the entrance.

Ganoga Falls, Pennsylvania

Ganoga Falls in May 2009

Ganoga Falls is the largest of the waterfalls in Ricketts Glen State Park at about 90′ tall. It’s an amazing waterfall to view. There are multiple ways to view the falls. There is a short but steep trail leading down to the base of the falls, which I would definitely recommend doing. When I went down, there was a family playing around in the pool underneath the falls.

You can also view the falls close up by taking another short trail that leads to to the middle of the falls. I got confused, as I thought that the waterfall trail was ending here, only to realize that I had missed a turn a short ways back. It was still a very nice view, though not as good as the one at the base.

B. Reynolds Falls, Pennsylvania

B. Reynolds Falls is another beautiful falls in Ricketts Glen State Park. This is one of the smaller falls in the park. I’m not sure what else to say about it! If it were elsewhere, there would probably be a story associated with how difficult or easy it was to get to the falls, but in this case, the falls in Ricketts Glen are so numerous and all interconnected.

  1. From your starting point, get to the area around Red Rock, PA.

Ozone Falls, Pennsylvania

Ozone Falls in May 2009

There are so many waterfalls in Ricketts Glen State Park that it’s hard to keep track of all of them. Looking at the pictures, I realized how pretty Ozone Falls is. I think what interests me the most is that the waterfall fans out. At the crest, the waterfall is only about 1 or 2 feet wide, whereas at the widest, it is likely 7 or 8 feet. It’s just very interesting.

Directions:

  1. From your starting point, get to the area around Red Rock, PA.
  2. Turn onto PA-487, heading north. Go to the entrance to Ricketts Glen and turn right into the entrance.

F.L. Ricketts Falls, Pennsylvania

F.L. Ricketts Falls was one of the first waterfalls that I saw on my hike on the Waterfall Trail in Ricketts Glen State Park, and its beauty is a great indicator of things to come. F.L. Ricketts Falls is a beautiful cascading waterfall. It’s not too tall or even that wide, even compared to other falls in the park.

Directions:

  1. From your starting point, get to the area around Red Rock, PA.
  2. Turn onto PA-487, heading north. Go to the entrance to Ricketts Glen and turn right into the entrance.
