Our trip to Iceland this year was hastily planned. We were supposed to head to Jasper National Park in Alberta, but then wildfires hit. While we weren’t heading there for three weeks or so, I feel in those situations it’s best to wait on visiting to allow for locals to recover instead of having to deal with tourists. My thoughts shifted to Iceland. It was my third visit to the island, so I knew of certain locations to visit.
I had never been to the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, which I thought could be interesting. We found an Airbnb at the western edge of the peninsula that was available, and that was one of our destinations on our journey. I had seen pictures of a certain mountain in Iceland but didn’t realize until we were on our flight there or a bit after that Kirkjufell was one of the most photographed places in Iceland. And there are good reasons for that.
First, the mountain, Kirkjufell is really beautiful. It’s also located at a place where it’s very easy to stop and get some amazing shots. And then the waterfall, Kirkjufellsfoss, is right nearby. While it’s not a huge waterfall, it adds to the ambiance. The place is very busy, though, so some of the ambiance is lost by the many people wandering around. If you’re looking for an isolated waterfall without anyone else around, Kirkjufellsfoss may not be for you.

Where in the World is Kirkjufellsfoss?
