The Record

I generally avoid ranking or rating waterfalls. What resonates with one person might not with another. I’ve often found some waterfalls to be beautiful and memorable, even when other write-ups dismissed them as boring. Factors like season, water flow, and time of day can dramatically affect your waterfall experience.

That said, Skradinski Falls in Krka National Park is truly exceptional. It’s one of the best waterfalls I’ve visited, thanks largely to the thoughtfully designed boardwalk and trail system. Few places integrate the trail so seamlessly with the natural surroundings. From the moment you start, the scenery is captivating. The first few hundred feet of the boardwalk run just above the Krka River.

It’s hard to describe exactly what you’re seeing as you follow the paths. Are you exploring one massive waterfall hidden by nature’s obstacles, or a series of smaller cascades? Likely both. The total drop along this section of the Krka River is about 150 feet, though at any given point, you may only see individual drops of 40–50 feet. The 1.2-mile circular trail offers a lot to take in.

The real decision isn’t if you should visit, but when. Entry fees vary by season. We visited in March 2025, and the entry fee was €7 per person. Prices rise in spring and fall, and reach about €40 in summer. In summer, the higher cost may be worth it for the warmer weather. During our late winter/early spring visit, temperatures were mild, and we were allowed to drive down to the parking area near the falls. In summer, a shuttle is required. Alternatively, you can hike from the upper parking lot—a 0.8-mile trail that is a steep downhill on the way there and a challenging uphill climb on the return.

Directions

  1. There are multiple ways to arrive at Skradinski Buk in Krka National Park, so I’ll suggest two options.
  2. Option A: Year-round, you can access the trail by heading to the Lozovac Entrance, which is what I’ve shown on the map below. In winter months, you’ll likely be allowed to drive down to the trails. In busier months, you’ll need to take the shuttle or hike down to the trail.
  3. Option B: From April to November, you can take a boat from the village of Skradin that will drop you off and pick you up at the trail. We passed through Skradin, but didn’t choose this option since it wasn’t available.
