The Record

I appreciate many different types of waterfalls and waterfall experiences. There is something amazing about hiking a few miles and ending up at a stunning waterfall. At the same time, there is something equally as amazing as finding a waterfall after walking/hiking for just a few minutes. I think it has something to do with not feeling exhausted and yet having a similar calming experience that comes with the shorter walk.

Narracan Falls fits into the second category. I enjoyed visiting because it took a tiny bit of effort to find, but it happened pretty quickly. I believe you have to park on the west side of the road, but the start of the short walk is on the east side of the road. The park is interesting…it is designated as Narracan Falls Streamside Reserve (or that may be a bit further east), but in addition to its use as a park, you’ll also see some cows that also use the park. These cows seemed a bit more shy than others, so they wandered away pretty quickly. We did have to watch out for cow patties!

But as you’re walking along, you know you’re very close to the falls. You can hear them and then, with one turn of the head, you’ll get a pretty clear view of them. The falls are about 15 feet tall, so they’re not massive. They’re probably wider than they are tall. Some people may decide that they’re not tall or wide enough and skip out, but I still thought it was a fun adventure in the Victoria countryside that didn’t exhaust me!

Directions

  1. The more “difficult” part might be the drive to the falls. The road to the falls is not paved and can be a bit bumpy, though our 2WD rental car did fine.
  2. I will direct you to the map below since you can approach this from multiple different directions. The address for the Falls is 275 Falls Rd (Narracan VIC 3824).
  3. The road to the falls is called Falls Road and approaches from both the north and the south, with a bridge over the falls. As mentioned, I believe we parked to the right of the “entrance” to the park. I feel like it was pretty obvious where to park, but then we did head east into the picnic area.
