The Record

I’ve visited several smaller islands around the world now, and waterfall hunting isn’t always an easy proposition on these islands. Grenada seems to be one of the smaller islands where it’s not terribly complicated to find waterfalls. Over a span of two days, we were able to visit five different falls, none of them requiring a wildly difficult hike. Seven Sisters Falls (the preferred local name), also known as St. Margaret Falls, was the most “difficult” of the waterfalls to visit, though I only rated it as a moderate hike after its visit.

The trail to the falls is along a narrow, winding, mostly unpaved road. We hired someone to drive us to some falls, and I think (know) that was a wise decision. The trailhead wasn’t obvious to us, but it was to those who knew where to look. The hike is typical of some waterfall hikes…muddy and slippery, especially since you’re hiking downhill on the way to the falls. Wear good footwear and hike at an appropriate pace. It’s a 1.5-mile hike one-way, and you’ll likely be sweaty from the humidity. When you arrive at the falls, though, it’s worth it. We didn’t swim in the pool, but our tourmates did. There are reportedly seven drops on this creek, but the first two are the most easily visited. We could tell that hiking further upstream would be far more difficult.

The first two drops aren’t far apart from each other, maybe 100′ or so. You can capture both falls in the same photo, but the second waterfall doesn’t show up as well with both falls in the shot. A tree fell in front of the second falls a few years ago and has been left there. I didn’t mind…it added a uniqueness to the Seven Sisters Falls. There are two other falls nearby. Our guide said that Honeymoon Falls (I think) is on an adjacent stream and could be accessed from the trail we were on. Adelphi Falls is on a different trail, not far away from this one, though a drive to a different area is required.

Directions

  1. I would suggest hiring someone to drive to the falls. We booked a tour with Explorer Grenada. If you’re interested in driving to the falls, the map below shows their general location.
