The Record
In 2015, I made my second visit to Duluth and Minnesota’s North Shore. My dad, nephew, and I flew in and visited several waterfalls. My father passed away last year (2025), and his birthday was just a few days ago, so he has been on my mind. I love traveling, and while my father may not have reached my level, he was always up for some adventures, though none of ours were wild!
Before we visited Miller Creek Falls, we traveled the North Shore and returned to Duluth. We had some time before our flights departed, and I wasn’t sure which waterfall in the Duluth area I wanted to visit. My nephew’s last name is Miller, so it felt right to visit Miller Creek Falls. This is also an easy visit…the creek flows through Duluth into St. Louis Bay, which connects to Lake Superior. The creek is right next to Lincoln Park, which has a playground and pavilion.
After you arrive at Lincoln Park, it’s not complicated to view the falls and just explore the area at a leisurely pace. I’ve listed the falls at 30 feet tall, though that’s really for specific portions that are visible. The total drop, even in the park, might be higher than 30 feet. Realistically, all you’ll be able to view is around 30 feet of a drop at any time. Other waterfalls might be more scenic, but Miller Creek Falls is a great option to explore nature with your family, making memories without being too exhausted!
Directions
- Lincoln Park Playground & Pavilion is found near the intersections of US-53, I-35, and I-535. Exit 254 on I-35 (heading in either direction) may be the easiest to describe here.
- This exit takes you to 27th Avenue W. You’ll want to head northwest along this, which means you could take a right onto 27th Avenue if headed south along I-35.
- Whatever way you’re headed, you’ll likely turn onto W 3rd Street, which will be a right if you’re following these directions.
- You’ll then take a left onto Lincoln Park Drive. The parking area will be on your left, and it’s easy to walk the short distance to Miller Creek Falls from there.
