Delaware Falls, Pennsylvania

Delaware Falls in May 2009

Some waterfalls can end up seeming more beautiful in picture than I remember in person. Delaware Falls is one of those instances, though I think it might be due to the such high numbers of waterfalls in Ricketts Glen. There are only 21 or 22 named waterfalls, right? That doesn’t even include some of the cascades above and below the named falls. When I look at Delaware Falls now, I realize just how beautiful it is. I think it’s especially cool to see how the waterfall drops, then takes a sharp turn, and then drops again. If you visit Ricketts Glen, make sure to take time to enjoy Delaware Falls.

Directions:

  1. From your starting point, get to the area around Red Rock, PA.
  2. Turn onto PA-487, heading north. Go to the entrance to Ricketts Glen and turn right into the entrance.
  3. Follow the signs to the Falls Trail. You can access the Falls Trail using the Lake Rose parking area or Beach Lot #2 parking area, though you’ll be starting on different creeks. Start your hike on the loop by connecting into the Falls Trail.

Check out my note from Sheldon Reynolds Falls about precautions to take in Ricketts Glen.

Accessibility: 5/10 (moderate)
Height: 37′
Length of Hike: 4 miles round-trip
